Visual Culture: Jamaican Vinyl Art

We love caribbean music but we recognize that the same creative spirit that makes it so original is under-represented when it is channeled into other realms. That’s why shining a light on visual culture from the West Indies is one of our main things here at Large Up. The Jamaican Label Art site–an incredible archive of exactly that kind of graphic invention, organized around scans of 45 labels and 12″ sleeves–is a perfect place to start terraforming your brain with retinal rockers, but we couldn’t resist leading with the above Scientist, Barnabas and Maxie cover from 1981, via the Global Groovers blog. Screenshots of some of our faves are below but there are too many goodas to choose.
