French Canadian beatmaker Poirier recently joined the Mixpak Records roster; his first release for the New York-based label, Soca Road, is out Jan. 17. To get listeners in the mood for the sort of vibes they’ll be catching on the EP, Poirier remixed Kes the Band’s 2011 carnival anthem “Where Yuh From,” replacing the trance vibes of the riddim with something much more percussive that he calls the Work That Riddim. The increasingly soca-focused Poirier knows what he’s doing: this is a rare case of an “outsider” remixing soca, and possibly making it more fรชte-worthy. Stream and download below.
