It would seem that Jamaica-based hip-hop artists are on the rise—we’ve covered at least two in the past month. The newest on the scene is MC Saydis, the self-described “Jamaican rapper who wants to be an American legend.” His newest tune “Round of Applause” is definitely one of the better dancehall/hip-hop hybrids from the islands in a while, boasting some straightforward raps over a Bob Marley Max Romeo-sampling “Chipmunk soul”-style beat.
Though he hasn’t broken through internationally, the young MC from Portmore, JA (home of Vybz Kartel, Popcaan and more) already has two mixtapes and 70 different songs to his name, and a clear-spoken delivery that likely to enhance his accessibility to American audiences. If you want to learn more about Saydis, check out an interview he did with Kid Dreamer Entertainment.
