Throwback Thursdays: Shabba Ranks “Ting-A-Ling”

Words by Eddie STATS Houghton, illustration by Jenny Mortsell via FADER

From here on out we are dedicating Thursday afternoons to posting throwback videos from your favorite Caribbean artists on LargeUp, on the basis THAT’S WHAT WE REALLY DO ON A THURSDAY AFTERNOON ANYWAY–which means it’s probably what you do, too. We are touching off in style with Shabba Ranks, who as we’ve noted has been resurfacing everywhere this past year from the cover of FADER magazine to “Red Dot Special” to Irish & Chin’s “Reewind” event. Also, just in the past few weeks Daddy Bigg$ of Platinum Camp productions worked out a deal to start releasing back-catalog material from legendary Brooklyn label/record store Super Power on iTunes–including not only a trailor load of the 45s and albums that buss Shabba, but seminal tunes from Super Cat, Louie Rankin and a who’s who of other old-time deejays. Watch this space for more vids, news and features on your favorite Big People Music and feel free to drop requests in the comments section or hit us on Twitter. Come again.
