Toast! To the singjay with the most. Really and truly, many a reggae-phile are still getting over the loss of the cool ruler, Gregory Isaacs, and we’re definitely not over losing Sugar Minott, one of the originators of the dancehall style. Minott was as versatile an artist as ever touched the stage and paved the way for many to follow. Among his many gifts, he was able to go from singing to chattin’ in an instant and in the final analysis was a one-of-a-kind entertainer. So on his day we celebrate his life and his many contributions to our lives. (Those who really feel like celebrating can head to Brooklyn’s Fish Eye Bar & Grill, where Minott’s daughter Pashon is hosting a fete in his honor tonight at the exact venue where he played his last stageshow) If only he were to receive his happy birthday propers. If you’re listening…Large Up yourself, Sugar.
