Throwback Thursdays: Peter Tosh & Mick Jagger, “(You Gotta Walk) Don’t Look Back”

Words by Jason “J-Rockaz” Orford

By now you may have heard that Mick Jagger and Damian “Junior Gong” Marley are getting ready to collaborate on a musical project called Super Heavy. While we have little idea what the project will sound like, we know that Jagger and the Stones are veteran reggae-philes. So it was a pleasure digging up this video for the sake of entertaining your imagination. Today’s backwards expedition through the sands of time reveals “(You Gotta Walk) Don’t Look Back,” a cover of one of the original “get that dirt off your shoulder” chunes (by the Temptations), from a mellowed yet ever-mighty Peter Tosh and a characteristically pepped-up Mick Jagger. And yeah, that’s a young Sly and Robbie you spotted rocking and rolling pon the drum and bass. The simplicity and rawness of the video, including the hand-painted posters hanging tight in the backdrop of what seems to be a “we’re jamming” type session, complements the sincerity of this rare performance. So, yeah, when the haters dem try to hold you down, it’s betta you just keep it moving–one foot forward. Enjoy your trip!
