Yes it’s been a week already, and we’re right back at it here at Mixtape Mondays. It’s safe to say that summer is officially over, but we got you covered as always with the mixtape heat. Leggo.
Collin Hines, 1990 Suppm: Episode 1: Hold on, hold on…hold the f*#in phone…this one is a boomshot. When our compadre Max Glazer sent us this mix we knew it was a heater by default, but damn, this is definitely a must download for any dancehall fan, especially those who appreciate the 90’s era, as we do so fondly here at LargeUp. As Stephen”Supa Hype” Davis states in the intro, Collin “The Captain” Hines is not a bus driver, but the legendary Jamaican radio DJ (of FAME FM fame) is about to take you to school. Collin is a true DJ (as in disc jockey) OG, responsible for popularizing the mixshow format on Jamaican radio. On what he promises will be the first installment of an ongoing series, you’ll find 73 tracks of necessary 1990 suppm dancehall business. Don’t waste another moment of your life without this mix in it. Stream here, download here.
Itation Sound, Itation City Culture Mix: We tend to feature a heap of dancehall mixes here on MM, but we always have room for one drop and culture, especially when it’s coming from Cali/Vermont soldiers Itation Sound. Well respected on both coasts for their mixtape catalog and original productions and riddims via imprint Itation Records, Itation (consisting of Dread Lion, Tosheba, Nickel B and J-Trees, Jah Mystic) return to Mixtape Mondays with this blazing culture mix. This time around they’re joined by Trini roots and culture star and frequent collaborator Pressure Busspipe, as well as Seattle’s Bobby Hustle repping the ever evolving Dynasty Records family. Itation City, mixed by J-Trees, features some crucial one drop from the past year or so from the likes of Luciano, Alborosie, Lutan Fyah, Taurrus Riley, Delly Ranx, Mr Vegas, Anthony B, Capleton, Collie Buddz & Sean Paul and plenty more. DJ Daneekah, Dream Weekend: Repping San Francisco by way of Australia, DJ Daneekah just dropped a long awaited new mix for her folks in the Bay, Aus and beyond (she’s made plenty of fans in Asia and others regions she’s touched down pon tour.) Holding things down for the SF ladies in dancehall alongside Green B, who we also featured on MM recently, these 2 have been doing their part, collectively as the Cooyah Ladeez, to bring dancehall and Caribbean culture to the people of SF on a weekly basis. Always up on the new tunes and trends taking place on the island, Daneekah laced a cool 88 tracks on Dream Weekend of straight up to di time dancehall shellings. This wrap up of big summer tunes from 2011 should keep things hot for a good 10 months. Stream and download here.
