Only occasionally heard from since a mid-aughts run that produced the unlikely crossover hit “Can’t Satisfy Her” and “Living in Love,” new roots movement leader I-Wayne returns next week–Oct. 11 to be exact–with his third album for VP Records and first in four years, Life Teachings. As you might expect, most of the album (the cover art to which was shot by our own Martei Korley) finds Wayne in his one-drop riddim comfort zone. One exception, and probably our favorite tune on the LP, is ‘The Fire Song,” an uptempo dancehall number featuring Agent Sasco (or Assassin, for you traditionalists). The tune, co-produced by Gareth Campbell for Boardhouse Records and co-written by Daseca, first turned up last year (check this behind-the-scenes video from the session) but still hasn’t seen the light it deserves. Stream below, and buy the album here when it drops next week.
