When Kardinal Offishall dropped the audio for “Anywhere (Ol Time Killin) Part 2” back in July, it immediately had us digging in the crates and re-visiting all of Kardi’s raggamuffin hip-hop classics, including, of course, the original “Ol Time Killin” from 2001. Toronto’s original crossover MC has always put every ounce of his Jamaican-ness into his hip-hop, dropping reggae samples and straight-up dancehall tunes on just about all of his albums. The upcoming Mr. International figures to be no different, especially with “Anywhere,” a big tune on a soundbwoy-crushing beat blending the classic dancehall riddims Sleng Teng and Death in the Arena, as its lead single. For the visuals, Kardi plays mustard yellow suit-clad host, inviting us into a good, ol’ time basement bashment. Nothing new about that, but that’s sorta the point.
