We been anxiously awaiting this Mavado x Akon dancehall extravaganza–and now it’s here! There are several reasons for the anticipation: 1) its been years since global megastar Akon gave fans a look at his bashment side. His dancehall bonafides are well established with tunes like “AK” on Dave Kelly’s Fiesta riddim but lately he’s been too busy being everywhere (discovering Lady Gaga, making Bollywood smashes with Shah Rukh Khan) to indulge it much. Then there’s Mavado. With his recent signing to DJ Khaled’s We The Best imprint, expectations are high for the singer. Dancehall as an industry badly needs someone to pave a way for Jamaican music into mainstream radio play–and with Vybz Kartel sidelined by legal troubles, all eyes are watching the Gully Gad. Luckily, this big and bold tune smells like a hit. Stream below and look out for more big things from dancehall’s current gully ambassador.
