Words by Jesse Serwer—
BX rapper and Now Things alumnus The Kid Daytona has just dropped a sequel to his excellent mixtape The Interlude, but the 2010 original is still bearing fruits. One of the best tracks from the O.G., “NYA (“New Yorker’s Ambition),” which paired Daytona with another talent profiled in our Now Things series, Cali’s Aloe Blacc, has just gained a video, a full year after dropping in audio form. Nas fans will recognize the song’s sample as the intro music from Illmatic; true hip-hop heads will recognize it as the theme music from Wild Style. The colorful clip keeps with the latter’s tradition, with a graffiti theme, and lots of proper Bronx scenery like the Grand Concourse, elevated train stations and Kennedy Fried Chicken. Watch below, and read our interviews with both Daytona and Aloe here.
