Moombashment: Stream Cam Jus’ “Badman” EP

Words by DJ Theory—

Hopefully you’ve peeped our recent article on moombahton, easily one of the most talked about genres on the global music scene today. Taking a Caribbean influence from birth with its use of reggaeton tempos, many of the style’s practitioners are also incorporating elements of reggae, dancehall, soca and other island flavors into their beats. One DJ/producer doing just that is Washington, DC’s Cam Jus.

Cam Jus—who spins at the explosive “Moombahton Massive” parties at Tittsworth and Will Eastman’s DC club U Street Music Hall and holds down the monthly “Tropixxx” party in DC with moombahtonista and local tattoo artist Billy The Gent—has been doing his part to keep the movement and dancefloor going strong. On his brand-new Badman EP for Rot10 Musik, he combines the moombah world with bashment world (I believe David Heartbreak coined the term “moombashment” term for such a style). His flip of Max Romeo’s classic “Chase The Devil” (also used for Jay-Z’s “Lucifer“) is straight murder, and should have a cross-section of dancefloors bubbling in 2012, while “OG Badman” and “The Kingdom Eucharist”, both Dem Bow-drenched heaters, prove Cam is one of the baddest young producers in global bass music today.
