Mixtape Mondays: Exclusive Premiere of DJ Child & PGM’s “Politrikkks”

Words by DJ Theory—

This week for Mixtape Mondays we reconnect with Oakland’s DJ Child for another LargeUp exclusive premiere. Child and his Project Groundation Massive brand have been recognized the world over for their unique and proudly uncensored mixtapes, and his newest creation Politrikkks makes another great addition to his Return To The Classics series of throwback mixes.

In association with Sierra Seeds, a California-based seed cooperative, PGM has once again gone the extra mile to add substance to the pot rather than just a regular thing. Like so many of Child’s CDs, Politrikkks (Cover art for which was designed by iconic Bay Area street artist Notmygovernment.com) deals with a message, focusing on the lies and deceit we get fed on a daily basis through the media. Child never half steps when it comes to aggressively shedding light on injustice through his projects, and he has the crates and musical knowledge to back it up. Essential tunes from Gregory Isaacs, Wayne Jarrett, Phillip Frazier, Michael Rose, The Congos, Dennis Brown, Pablo Gad, Jacob Miller, Black Uhuru and more are complimented with snippets of gathered political speech and commentary from the mind of DJ Child.

Download Politrikkks here, and grab physical copies from the PGM web store here. For those in the Bay Area, Child will be performing a rare live show with longtime collaborator M1 (of Dead Prez) on March 3rd in San Francisco. See event details here.

The Heatwave, Hot Wuk Anthems: For a change of pace and an added bonus, we’ve also got a sizzling new mix from our UK doopses, The Heatwave. Gabriel and co. recently took their London-based Hot Wuk party on the road, and the madness that ensued inspired them to throw together a set featuring all of the crowd favorites for their weekly Rinse FM show. The nearly two-hour mix covers all of the latest dancehall anthems, starting with tune-of-the-month candidate Cham’s “Tun Up,” a soca set (a teaser of sorts for the 2012 carnival rundown show they were planning for this week) as well as some exclusive blends on the Oliver Twist afro beats riddim, and some of the bashment we told you Wiley was making in our recent interview with the man. Stream here, download here.
