Jamaica’s Protoje has just dropped a video for one of his best tracks to date “Our Time Will Come,” which we’re told is not actually a single from his upcoming sophomore album The Eight Year Affair but one left off of his debut, The Seven Year Itch, due to sample clearance issues. (And that sample happens to be of Burning Spear, for whom you can see Protoje warming up for in clips from the video filmed at New York’s Central Park Summerstage.)
The clip, mostly shot in Kingston, also offers a preview (right before the 3-minute mark) of another song called “Who Dem a Program,” and we’re really feeling this one. With its funky melodica melody, Don Corleon’s throwback digital riddim proves to be just the right platform for Protoje to showcase his increasinglynimble flow. Check out audio of both “Who Dem A Program” and “Our Time Come” below, pree the video for “Our Time Come” after that, and look out for The Eight Year Affair soon on Don Corleon Records.
