Mixtape Mondays: Toddla T, Paul Michael, Soldia Sound

Words by DJ Theory—

Monday is upon us again, and whether you’re still recovering from too much Easter Bun & Cheese or all set to take on the week, these mixes from London, Switzerland and Boston should get you fired up. Current anthems, digital classics, jungle and more make their way in this week—get some below.

Toddla T, In New DJ’s We Trust 4/6/12: The big man Toddla T is back with another stellar show from his massive BBC Radio 1 program. Toddla just recently took the reigns as a full-time DJ for Radio 1, and the diverse, tropical, carnival madness he’s loved for is seeping through every episode (he was even kind of enough to premier my “Real Spenders” remix before it hit the world a couple months back). For this show, in addition to running some of our favorite dancehall, hip hop, moombahton and tropical bass vibez, he added some iconic jungle bits to the mix, making sure the people know he’s got the crates and background to keep things interesting. Can’t wait to see what he pulls out of his hat next… Stream the show before it goes offline and pree the full tracklist here.

Paul Michael, Tempted To Touch: New England-based DJ Paul Michael of Black Magic Sound and Dem Rah Rah Kids is back on MM with another quality mix. This one called Tempted To Touch is a little different than the modern Dancehall Madness mixes he’s known for, and wraps up 1.25 hours of necessary dancehall classics. Some of our favorite tunes from the golden era of dancehall music are on here, from Buju, Beres, Garnett Silk, Wayne Wonder, Tony Rebel, Marcia Griffiths (i.e. a ton of Penthouse) and more, mixed smoothly and peppered with some heavy specials from Sanchez & Freddie McGregor. If you rate classic dancehall and need a new one for the whip, Paul Michael has you covered. Stream and download below, get the tracked version here.

Soldia Sound, 9th Anniversary Edition: Switzerland is in the building this week, as Soldia Sound celebrate their ninth anniversary with this huge mix of contemporary bashment straight from yard. Nothin too fancy here, just a no-funny-bizness mix with all the big boys and big tunes mixed properly from Soldia Sound. Their “Dancehall University” party was held last night in Lausanne longside Selekta G and our Swedish bredren Safari Sound, and given the magnitude of these European juggling machines, we’re sure the anniversary dance sell awwff. Salute to Soldia Sound, here’s to many more years of vibez and destruction. Stream and download the mix below, get the tracklist here.
