San Francisco-based producer Kush Arora has been at the forefront of the electro-bashment (or, as he likes to call it, “dread bass”) movement in the States for a minute now. With some heavyweight originals, remixes and combinations with artists from JA, the UK and beyond, Kush is definitely doing his part to marry the sounds and feeling of the Caribbean — be it dancehall, bashment, soca, chutney, digital dub — with global electronic music. Let’s not forget the ridiculous tropical/baile funk mixtape Carioca Bass we premiered a couple months back with lovely accomplice Zuzuka Poderosa.
This time around his diversity really comes through for this unique and verrrry wavey extended disco treatment of “Shake Sitten,” featuring ’90s dancehall don Mega Banton on vocals, and re-built by Kush under his appropriately named “China White” alias. I remember when he sent a rough version of this to me a few months ago as he was making it and I was immediately taken… The airy atmosphere and melody, relaxed drums and chopped up Mega vocals make this tune a refreshing and necessary addition to your (very) late night, early morning and summertime playlists. Grab it below.

As an added bonus on the flip, we have a LargeUp premier of the bashy and uncensored UK-funky remix of Lady Chann‘s “Wid Dem” courtesy of SF’s Peek, for you to grab below. The original release and full remix EP’s from Kush’s Spanish Street Riddim are out now on choice Finnish label Top Billin. Grab all the Shake Sitten remixes here, and Wid Dem remixes here.
