Words by Erin MacLeod—
Dominica is one of the Caribbean’s best-kept-secrets. The “Nature Island”, as it’s been called, may not have miles of while sand beaches, but it has one of the most spectacular coastlines in the region. Huge, green mountains seem to magically arise from the incredibly blue water of its harbour. It’s a calm, safe and relaxed place with a terrific (and traditional) Carnival. It’s also the place where a R&B/hip hop outfit–simply called Symplz–is showing potential. Kade Augustine (Kingy), Jeffery Paul (Sleeq), Darnil Pierre Louis (Zell), Damian Matthew (D.M) and Asher Thomas (Ice) all can sing, and they seem to have a knack for a decent hook. Check their video for “Boy Dat Track Bad”–already massive on their home island–as well as their new album, One Of A Kind, out last month on VP Records.
