Hipsters Don’t Dance, World Carnival 3: One of the tuffest working teams in London are back with a third installment of their aptly titled and 100% bubbling World Carnival mix. To hype their self-promoted carnival party debut with our folks Dre Skull, So Shifty and more the day before this years Notting Hill Carnival, the Hipsters Don’t Dance crew cut a thick slice of that live energy into this mix. Leading off with Tifa’s “Champion Bubbler” on Dre Skull’s latest riddim, we soon get into tunes from this guy, Murlo, RDX, So Shifty and Walshy Fire’s forthcoming “Bruk It Down” remix, Ghanaian-champs Sarkodie and R2Bees, and a lineup of classic and future forwards. H.D.D combine bashment, dancehall, soca, azonto, grime, garage, funky and tropical heat from the Caribbean, Africa and UK, distilling the essence of what the upcoming fete is all about. Poirier, Pier Party Mix: Leading the charge for global bass movements in Montreal, DJ/producer/boss Poirier keeps the carnival vibes flowing with another tuff mix to set the tone for the Pop Montreal Pier Party that jumped off this past weekend in MTL. Big tunes and remixes from Stylo G, Donaeo, D’Banj, a couple cuts off the perfectly paired Loudspeaker riddim from Dre Skull and Alert riddim from Poirier, azonto fire courtesy of EL and more combine for a groovy trip through the crates. With DJ mixes ranging from salsa to b-boy breaks to rock, funk, electro, soul, this is the first reggae excursion we’ve seen from the man, handling some undisputed singles and early Brooklyn anthems in the dancehall department.
