Video: Dubstep and Smoking Havana – Mala In Cuba documentary

Words by Sherman Escoffery—

Gilles Peterson on Mala In Cuba: “This is the record that reevaluates and realigns the Dubstep movement within sound system culture.”

Mala (of Digital Mystikz) initially traveled to Cuba to work in conjunction with Gilles Peterson; now the UK Dubstep producer/DJ has his own Cuban project completed and ready to go. If you are familiar with Gilles Peterson’s Havana Cultura project, then you will understand Mala In Cuba as an extension of it.  Never wanting to be shackled by the narrow musical definition of Dubstep, (of which he has been a pioneer) Mala always stays ahead of the crowd with his musical mashups of various genres without sounding schizophrenic. On this project he brings his usual South London A- game, as he collaborates with several gifted Cuban musicians; including, Changuito, Roberto Fonseca, and songstress Danay Suarez among others. The result is this smoking hot project that comes out on September 11th 2012.
