Mixtape Mondays: Crown Prince x Bunny Rugs, Safari Sound, Bobby Hustle

Words by DJ Theory—

Back like we never left, Mixtape Mondays is bringing you that good good, with reggae and dancehall music holding the torch high this week. Essential one-drop and lovers from JA meets unfiltered bashment dancehall from Sweden, with some singjay vibes from Seattle, and Monday starts to look a whole lot brighter all of a sudden. Catch some rays below.

Crown Prince x Bunny Rugs, Time Album Sampler: Our dude Crown Prince just teamed with Third World frontman and 10-time Grammy nominee Bunny Rugs to give you a taste of Bunny’s brand new solo project entitled Time. Feelgood authentic reggae music is the focus here, as Bunny brings his signature sweet sound to this album sampler to get the people hype for the fifth solo record of his celebrated career. Although the sampler clocks in at under 10 minutes, the mix from Crown Prince is blended clean and will surely give you a taste of the 15-track roots, culture and lovers rock album from one of reggae’s greatest voices. To get a closer look inside the mind of Mr. Rugs, check our recent top 10 with Bunny here. Purchase Time on iTunes here, and stream the mix below.

Safari Sound, Live @ Colors: Sweden’s Safari Sound are rated worldwide for their consistently large mix CDs, but for this round we’re including a brand new thing inna di market: a Safari Sound live recording. Captured live and uncut from club Colors in Gothenburg—the dance also featured our bredrin Red Fox on headlining duty—Safari’s Shirkhan gives you a taste of real dancehall juggling with partner in crime Sammy K on mic duties. Mostly new dancehall here, peppered with some classics and of course some tuff Safari dubplates. If you’re wondering how a dance gets dun, press play on this bad boy. Stream and download below, more info here.

Bobby Hustle, Bobby’s World: Seattle’s own Bobby Hustle has been making some serious noise the last few years, with singles and remixes infiltrating DJ playlists at a steady rate. In anticipation of his debut album Bobby’s World, Bobby built this 20-track mixtape to share some new music with his fans and get more people hip to the hustle. This is definitely a dude you’re gonna be hearing a lot more from soon thanks to his smooth delivery, catchy hooks, and support from his Dynasty Records family. Look out for the record coming in hot on December 4th, and download the mix here.
