Mixtape Mondays: Crown Prince, Safari Sound, Razz & Biggy x Mavado

Words by DJ Theory—

Whether you’re recovering from wining and raving at Miami Carnival or just gearing up for another work week, we got you covered as always here at Mixtape Mondays with all the necessary goods. Soca, vintage reggae, dancehall and hip hop hold it down this week, touching down in Toronto, Miami, Sweden and Jamaica. Fill your cup below.

Crown Prince, Supa Soca Vol. 18 Welcome to Miami: Our dude Crown Prince is back with another soca sureshot, along with some help from frequent collaborators and soca music generals Jester, Barrie Hype and Dr. Jay. Toronto meets the Caribbean via Miami when these seasoned selectors combine, and, if you missed Miami Carnival, this should deliver that Miami Caribbean feeling in textbook fashion. (And if you were in Miami for carnival, hopefully you were able to witness the Red Bull Culture Clash as well yesterday.) The 305 does it again… Stream and download over 60 tracks of current soca heat below, full tracklist and subscribe to the podcast here.

Safari Sound, It Takes A Lot to Make A Classic Vol. 1: The always clean and criss Safari Sound deliver again, this time teaming with Reebok Classics to bring you a brand new mixtape and uber-limited collaborative t-shirt. In the spirit of the classics concept— as well as Jamaica’s 50th Independence celebration this year—Safari compiled 50 of their favorite reggae scorchers from the 70’s and early 80’s affirming that the crates and inspiration run very deep. Stream and download below, tracklist and more info here.

Razz & Biggy x Mavado, So Suicidal Mixtape: Jamaican mixtape ambassadors Razz & Biggy take the reigns for the new official mixtape from the gully gaad himself Mavado. After the buzz around his recent signing with hip-hop giants We The Best Music and YMCMB, Mavado unveils a full length offering of reggae, dancehall and hip hop, with features across the board.  Not exactly sure what the motives are behind the title with this project—or dancehalls dark side in general—but Mavado still has plenty to say from Miami and back to Gully Side. Stream and download below, tracked version here.
