Twelve months after establishing himself as dancehall’s brightest new star, Popcaan had a relatively quiet summer this year. But it looks like Fry Yiy is ready to make up any ground lost to Konshens and fellow Gaza graduate Tommy Lee Sparta, dropping two sharp-looking videos in a matter of three days. First up is “Food Haffi Run,” on ZJ Chrome’s Wild Bubble riddim, a darker, gangster tune with a noir-ish, graphic novel-inspired video to match.
“Love We Bad,” meanwhile, is something more sunny. Burdened at first by the dead weight of British rapper Sincere and seen-it-a-million-times resort visuals, things pick up about halfway through “Love We Bad,” as the action shifts to a Passa Passa dance, and the focus moves squarely on Popcaan. This is definitely one to watch ’til the end—especially if you’re not feeling it at first. Pree both clips below, and tell us which tune looks like the Raving King’s next hit.
