Canadian do-it-all soca/dancehall/hip-hop producer Poirier recently dropped an electric new riddim EP called Kidnap (download it here for free), on which the anthemic “Jokma,” from Haitian-born, Montreal-based MC Mr. OK, is the definite standout. Solange, younger sister of Beyonce, recently visited Cape Town to film a video for her single, “Losing You,” in which he’s flanked by a crew of impeccably dressed and supremely swagged out South African dandies (or “sapeurs“).
These otherwise unrelated musical occurrences are married in Poirier’s “official unofficial” video for “Jokma,” which remixes Solange’s “Losing You” visuals to fit Poirier’s own tune. “When I saw the video I felt it was fitting my track,” Poirier explains to LargeUp, “so we deleted the part where we see her singing and kept the rest and matched it with my track.” Watch the video to see what he means, and sample the Kidnap EP below.
