Mixtape Mondays: We Are Massiv, Jugglerz Sound, DJ Septik x DJ Arems

Words by DJ Theory —

Broadcasting live from Maui, Hawaii, this week your boy Theory is back and so are the mixes, with undiluted soca and dancehall leading the charge this week. From LA to Trinidad, Germany to Jamaica and Vancouver to Belgium, the connections and the music never cease here at Mixtape Mondays. Catch a seat or whine up in the aisle below.

We Are Massiv, Soca 2013 Round One: Last February, clothing and lifestyle brand We Are Massiv touched the road from LA to T&T carnival to soak up the sun, rum, gyals and music, and this is the mix to prove it. Cooked up by brand co-founder Dana Shayegan, the mix embodies the energy of the islands during carnival season with a cross-section of current soca and EDM-infused vibes from all the necessary players. Massiv also had the opportunity to reason with soca monarchs like Machel Montano, Kes The Band and KMC during the visit, which I’m sure played an intimate role in the creation of this project. Stream and download below, tracklist and full story here.

Jugglerz Sound, We Run It: Stuttgart, Germany is in full effect this week, with the bad boys of Jugglerz Sound unleashing their newest dancehall offering on the world We Run It blent up by the one DJ Meska. Boasting some tuff exclusives, singles and riddims from the top artists in the game, the tape is also hosted by ex-Gaza affiliate and fearless singjay Jah Vinci, who of course adds that extra niceness to the equation. With Shotta Paul and Meska (who also reps German sound killing machine Sentinel Sound) always doing their part to push reggae and dancehall to the world, this mix can easily serve as a reference for current dancehall and will light up your winter surroundings no sweat. Download single track here, tracked version here. Cop the tracklist here.

DJ Septik x DJ Arems, Slow Bounce Radio #62: Staying in Europe for a second, we now go live to Brussels, Belgium where DJ Septik is steadily running things… His Slow Bounce party and subsequent weekly radio show are staples for the Belgian reggae/dancehall/hip-hop and club community, and the mix shows tell the full story. For this installment, none other than my partner in Faction Sound Crew and one of the baddest deejays I know, Vancouver’s DJ Arems, made a guest appearance on the show while on tour in Europe, shelling down dubs and riddims like nuttin nah gwaan. Just another day’s work for two of the hardest working selectas in the game. Stream and download the whole show here (Arems starts 29:30 mark) or just grab Arems set here.
