Back in April we hipped you to LA’s Esprit de Corps and their wicked single “Is It Too Late.” A strong, healthy blend of sweet soul vocals, an updated Studio One riddim, dub ambience and vintage-sounding hip-hop drums, it was definitely one of the freshest sounding reggae-based tunes we’ve heard all year.
So it’s great news that the duo, which consists of producer Fred Card and vocalist Cherry, have just dropped their first EP, Be Easy. The three-song release contains an updated version of “Is It Too Late,” and two new songs, including the title track with the legendary Dean Fraser on sax. It’s the EP’s other tune, “Love, Love, Love,” that we’d like to draw your attention to right now. The sharply produced tune also has its own unique stew, with one-drop guitars, 808 bass drop and a shuffling drum pattern backing up Sherry’s jazz vocals. Sample it below, and look out for more from Esprit de Corps on LargeUp shortly.
