Yes, there is a paradise: it’s called Dominica. The volcanic Eastern Caribbean island is blessed with an abundance of natural sulphur springs—you can find them below scenic waterfalls, and even at the side of the road. For the ultimate in relaxation, there’s perhaps no better place on the island than Tia’s Hot Spa in the village of Wotten Waven. Besides for its soothing, hot sulphur pools with varying degrees of temperature and privacy, Tia’s also boasts some of the most beautiful landscaping on the island, and the warm hospitality of owner Tia, his wife, Bernadette, and their trusty dog, Pablo.
Whether you’re just looking to relax after hiking in Morne Trois Piton National Park, or testing the healing effects of hot sulphur water on doctor’s orders, Tia’s offers one of the most idyllic settings imaginable, and even has private cottages available for overnight stays, as well as a restaurant and bar. The specialty at the latter is “Watch Yuh Self,” a potent, intensely spicy rum punch. It’s not a “cute” name: Drink more than one cup at your own peril.
Watch the Tia’s Hot Spa webisode below, and scroll through for Martei Korley’s photo series on the following pages, and check out more images and videos from the Nature Island here.
Even the bathroom at Tia’s is a thing of beauty
Despite her name, Tia’s trusty dog Pablo is a “she”

No trip to Tia’s is complete without a cup of “Watch Yuh Self,” the spa’s spicy rum punch. Tia isn’t joking when he says “Watch Yuh Self”—drink with caution.
