Brooklyn-based yardie rapper BRNGTN recently teamed with Barcelona/Germany-based production unit Soul Force for a flip of “Dum Dum,” an instrumental tune by the beatmaker (and fellow Brooklynite) known as Baauer. SoulForce’s version replaces the “trap”-style drums (Can we all agree to stop using the term “trap” to describe instrumentals geared to the hipster market, please?) of the original with a pattern more suited to the dancehall, while BRNGTN drops some tuff street rhymes with the occasional patois twist. The mixture of elements might be a little unorthodox but the end result definitely flows. Stream/download below, and judge for yourself.
For more BRNGTN, check his video for “Rise of the Machines,” a tune that sees him rhyming over the Sound Dimensions’ classic Rockfort Rock riddim.
