Occupying a space between power soca, steelpan and the freakiest outer limits of U.K. dance music, “One Time” is the debut single from Jus Now, the Anglo-Trinidadian duo of Interface (of Bristol, England) and LAZAbeam (of T&T). As jarring as the song’s unique sound is the accompanying video, a manic trip through Port of Spain’s streets, roti shops, parrot’s nests and a dojo full of karate kids. We’ve seen someย ambitious soca videos this Carnival season, but this is some really next-level business.
“One Time” is also the lead single for an upcoming EP of the same name, out March 11 on Gutterfunk Records. The EP’s four tunes includes collaborations with Bunji Garlin (for whom the duo recently produced the groovy soca single “Savage”) and another with MX Prime โthe artist formerly known as Maximus Dan. Both are massive. Watch the video, then preview the EP below. If you like your soca served up with a side of the future (and some doubles, of course), you won’t be disappointed.
