Words by Jesse Serwer—
It’s been a few years since Tifa first grabbed our attention as part of TNT, or the Badda Badda Gals, with Natalie Storm and Timberlee. While her former crewmates have gone quiet recently, Tifa has stepped up her presence, emerging as dancehall’s most popular young female artist—and a potential heir apparent to the genre’s perpetually retirement-threatening queen, Lady Saw.
Now that she’s got Jamaica on lock, Tifa is making some moves internationally. Having recently collaborated with Vybz Kartel/Popcaan producer Dre Skull on his Kling Klang riddim, she’s just released a video for that tune, “Champion Bubbler.” Directed by Vice’s Andy Capper (who’s also behind Popcaan’s recent “So We Do It” video on the Kling Klang riddim, as well as the Snoop Lion documentary, Reincarnated), the clip brings us into Jamaica’s Stanley Couch Gym, where we find Tifa training with Jamaica’s national female boxing team. After watching this one, one thing’s for sure: don’t ever question Tifa’s stamina!
