Words by Jesse Serwer—
Ghetto Youths International’s Set Up Shop, Volume 1 is out today and, while the compilation features a whole heap of tracks from album producer Damian Marley, including the brand-new “Dem Neva Make It” and the not-so-new “Affairs of the Heart,” and a heavyweight collaboration from Stephen Marley, Buju and Akon, one of the tracks that’s got us pressing repeat comes from the next generation of Marley kids.
“Treat You Right” is a hypnotic love song from Daniel Marley, eldest son of Ziggy, with an extra-mellow riddim that leaves plenty of room for the young singer to flex his crooning chops. Daniel, who also goes by Daniel Bambaata Marley or just Daniel Bambaata, first impressed us with “2 Feet,” his contribution to the Marley’s Mellow Mood Tune in Tuesdays series, leading us to include him in our Top 10 Artists to Watch for 2013 last month. Based on”Treat You Right,” it appears he’s already starting to live up to that promise.
