Words by Jesse Serwer—
Eve spent some time in Jamaica last month and, while there, she paid a visit to one of our favorite dancehall labels, Truckback Records, where she voiced producer Steve Locke’s new Pink Wall riddim. The sexy rapper-turned actress (whose previous flirtations with reggae/dancehall include collaborations with Damian and Stephen Marley and Shaggy) passed on the opportunity to chat ’bout her pink walls, though, opting instead to talk dollar signs with Lady Saw and New Kidz on a track called “Money Green.”
It is almost comical to hear Eve, whose boyfriend is billionaire Maximillion Cooper, boasting “we about to get to that gwap” in the track’s intro, like voicing a dancehall tune in 2013 is going to have a major impact on her bottom line. In fact, “Money Green,” which has something of an early 2000s dancehall feel to it, has less of a crossover sound than you might expect, thanks in part to scene stealer Lady Saw. Sample it here and tell us if Eve’s latest venture into Jamaican music passes your own personal bashment taste test.
