Words by Emily Shapiro—
Storm Saulter’s award-winning Better Mus’ Come, starring Sheldon Shepard of Jamaican dub poetry group No-Maddz and model/actress/singer Nicole “Sky” Grey, has been heralded as one of the best Caribbean films since The Harder They Come. We’ve been on board from early, and even featured Storm and the movie in one of our earliest LargeUp TV webisodes. If you live in New York, perhaps you saw us in the building for Better Mus’ Come‘s New York City premiere, at the Walter Reade Theatre at Lincoln Center. The place was full to capacity, with viewers sitting in the aisles just to catch the flick. (Check out the webisode from that, too.)
Now, to our delight, Better Mus’ Come may be coming to a theater near you, now that it has been picked up for US distribution by the African American Film Festival Releasing Movement, or AFFRM. The film is being released on the silver screen in the U.S. on March 15th, hitting NYC, Chicago, LA, Seattle and more. (See here for the full list of theaters). This is a big deal for Caribbean cinema, so make sure you head out to support this stellar work of art. Check the theatrical trailer for a taste of what mus’ come.
