LargeUp Premiere: Jo Mersa’s “Comfortable” Video

Words by Jesse Serwer—

“Comfortable” is one of two tunes from Jo Mersa, eldest son of Stephen Marley, on the just-released Ghetto Youths International compilation, Set Up Shop, Volume 1. And, like Mersa’s first single “Bad So,” it’s something a break from the family tradition of cultural reggae: young Jo has a very modern dancehall sound geared towards the ladies and the club.

The video for “Comfortable” unfolds at a Marley family barbecue in Miami, where Jo confirms his arrival as an artist with a seat at the grown-folks’ domino table next to his dad and uncles, before entertaining his ladyfriend on a scenic tour of the city. “It’s giving you a look at my life, and how we live,” Jo told us backstage at the 9 Mile Festival in Miami, where he performed during his father and uncles’ set Saturday night. (More on that later today). “It’s showing you simple things—dominoes, eating food…”

A spliff-less version of the clip debuted on Jamaica’s OnStage TV on Saturday but we’ve got the premiere of the full, raw version—fat, video-ending spliff included.
