Words by Jesse Serwer—
Producer Curtis Lynch of Necessary Mayhem Records in the UK recently embarked on a remix project reworking classic tunes from one of his—and our—favorite vocalists, Gregory Isaacs. Focusing on the Cool Ruler’s later work with producer Gussie Clarke, Lynch has given new life to classic but overlooked statements from Isaacs’ catalog like “Red Rose For Gregory” and “Jealousy” on Gregory Isaacs: Remixed. David Rodigan played the first track from the project, “Private Beach Party 2013” on his BBC 1Xtra show recently, and now we’ve got the full track—an update of Gregory’s romantic hit from ’85, and one of our favorite tunes by him from that era—to premiere online. Stream below. “Private Beach Party 2013” drops on iTunes March 11; Gregory Isaacs: Remixed is out April 15.
