In the fall of 2011, long-MIA dancehall goddess Patra sat down with us for her first interview in years, sharing the details of her planned comeback while showing in her photo shoot that she’s in just as good shape as she was in the ’90s. (See an outtake from the shoot above). A few months later the Queen of the Pack joined us for the Dancehall All-Stars meet The Roots session at the Okayplayer Holiday Jam and released a single, “Come Ova” with Delus, but she’s kept mostly quiet since then.
It looks like Patra is back on track, though, with her latest single, “Sweet Reggae Music.” As the title indicates, the song is a bit of a departure from her usual style of sexy dancehall, with a one-drop riddim and a hook asserting “what the world needs now is some sweet reggae music.” Of course, this is Patra, so there’s bound to be a sexy twist on the cultural theme. And some hot artwork—in this case, a photo of her in a see-through top, her breasts covered only by her trademark braids.
