Fresh off last night’s Fallon appearance, Major Lazer just dropped their video for “Watch Out For This (Bumaye)” featuring Busy Signal, something we’ve been looking forward to ever since the crew first leaked audio and pics of themselves and collaborators Busy, FS Green and The Flexican rocking over-the-top ’90s dancehall fashions. The video was directed by none other than LargeUp friend/dancehall video don Jay Will, who really paid tribute to the styles and aesthetics of the era (See Jay’s picks for the Top 10 ’90s dancehall videos that inspired “Watch Out For This” here). The team even went so far to bring on Earl “Biggy” Turner, the noted designer behind some of the era’s most memorable fashions (for Shabba, etc.), as a consultant.
The result is not only the frontrunner for the year’s best dancehall video (even if the tune itself is flavored just as much by salsa) but something that will sit nicely next to the classic videos (“Murder She Wrote,” et. al) that inspired it.
To celebrate the release, Jay Will gave us Damien “LoOkYah” Baddy‘s behind-the-scenes photos, capturing all of the on-set vibes. Scroll through after you watch the video:
