Words by Jesse Serwer—
When LargeUp ran into Konshens and dancehall superproducer RVSSIAN rolling together backstage at Miami’s Best of the Best fest on Sunday (see the photographic evidence below), we figured the two must have something cooking up. Turns out they have a brand-new single together, also featuring up-and-coming female vocalist J. Capri, called “Pull Up To Mi Bumper” set to buss on iTunes (via RVSSIAN’s Head Concussion Records) tomorrow. But we’ve got the world premiere of the audio right here.
No clone of Grace Jones’ original “Pull Up To My Bumper” or Patra’s 1995 dancehall remake, this “Pull Up To Mi Bumper” is in a similar ’90s-meets-today vein as J Capri’s recent RVSSIAN-produced hit “Wine and Kotch” (the video, which we premiered here on LargeUp last month is nearing 800,000 views on YouTube), with some ’80s new-wave synthesizers mixed in. And listen out for stabs of the classic Bam Bam riddim, recently revived in French Montana’s rap hit “Freaks.”
Check the tune right here, and tell us if you think this “Bumper” is worth bumping in the comments.
