Mixtape Mondays: DJ Arems x Popcaan, DJ Kiki, Safari Sound

Words by Deejay Theory –

Yowww! Welcome back to another unruly edition of Mixtape Mondays. Crazy new thing this week from one of our top-rated deejays and artists, along with some essential rewinds and certified customs moving from Vancouver to Jamaica, and the Netherlands to Sweden. Press play quick quick quick quick quick.

DJ Arems, Best of Popcaan: Trailer load a badness right here from the big homie and my fellow Faction Sound Crew member DJ Arems. Repping Vancouver to the fullest, Arems comes correct and then some with every mixtape, proving Vancity is firmly on the map in the dancehall department. On that very note, the unruly boss Popcaan touched the stage in Vancouver last night, which considering he doesn’t hold a US visa at the moment was somewhat of a big deal. In honor of the occasion Arems built this wicked ‘best of’ mixed CD with a slew of favorite picks from the artiste of course, with some exclusive Faction dubplates, accompanied by sick throwback cover art from the one Rhek. You already know Poppy’s rocking that LargeUp x Rockers NYC tee as well to keep it official. Run this and start an immediate rave in your office, kitchen, backyard, car, etc. Stream below, tracklist and download here:

DJ Kiki, Dancehall Fever 2: Making sure you’re covered in the classics department this week DJ Kiki fashions her MM debut with the second installment of her Dancehall Fever tape. Based in Amsterdam, this bad gyal does her thing for sure, and even just held it down in Caye Caulker, Belize with LargeUp family DJ Gravy, Federation Sound and Johnny Osbourne. Mixed up nice and clean this one offers a gang of iconic dancehall and bashment riddims, singles and favorites from the 90’s and early 2000’s. There’s honestly no way this will have a negative effect on your week. Stream and download below, tracklist here.

Safari Sound, 100% Dubplate mix for Irie Radio: Wrapping up this week with some necessary dubplate vibes courtesy of Swedish champion sound and MM regulars Safari Sound. Safari’s Shirkhan and Sammy K are no strangers to the dubplate arena, making sure all of their mixes stay blessed with exclusives throughout. For this mini-mix they compiled 100% specials for Irie Radio outta Norway, with newer joints mixed in with some dustier classics pulled from the Safari vault. Only complaint is that it’s not long enough, but that’s quickly relieved knowing there’s continuous heat coming from this squad around the clock. Stream and download below, tracklist here.
