Cliff Notes: Rockhouse Hotel’s Campfire Concert Series

Words by Jesse Serwer—

For a boutique resort catering to an upscale international clientele, the Rockhouse Hotel in Negril has always been in harmony with, and supportive of, local culture. Its restaurants emphasize Jamaican cooking traditions and local ingredients. And the Rockhouse Foundation, the hotel’s non-profit organization, has raised more than $2 million to build and refurbish public schools and libraries in the nearby area.

Recently, Rockhouse (in association with its sister property, NY restaurant Miss Lily’s) launched an outdoor, open-to-the-public concert series featuring pivotal Jamaican artists performing “inna campfire acoustical fashion” against the stunning, cliff-top view of Negril’s Pristine Cove.

The series, which launched last month with Mr. Vegas, returns tomorrow (June 18) with a second edition featuring dancehall godfather Johnny Osbourne. Dancehall it-girl Tifa will also be on hand to host and may even perform a few tunes herself; DJs Max Glazer and Kenny Meez of Federation Sound round out the family vibe. Since not everyone can be in Negril (raises hand) tomorrow night, the whole thing will be broadcast live on Radio Lily.com.

A portion of all proceeds from ticket sales (which cost $1000 Jamaican, or a little less than $10 US) go to the Rockhouse Foundation.
