Mixtape Mondays: Tribe of Kings x Protoje, DJ Rampage, I-Octane

Words by Deejay Theory —

Welcome back to another large edition of Mixtape Mondays. Hopefully everyone had a good holiday weekend, but now it’s time to greet a new week with new music. It’s a reggae and dancehall takeover this week with two premieres, and an essential roundup from one of our top-rated artists. Haul and pull up below.

LargeUp Premiere: Tribe of Kings, Be Wise (Hosted by Protoje): Kabooom—large, new roots and culture mix from one of the tuffest sounds on the west coast, San Diego’s mighty Tribe of Kings. This team has been doing work pushing reggae music forward for well over a decade now, holding firm on all fronts from dances to clashes to mixtapes. The bredrin Dash Eye always comes very correct with the mixes, never diluting the thing with anything but pure music and vibes. For Be Wise, he’s recruited the general of the current roots reggae revival Protoje to lace the project and keep everything official. Modern roots, culture and one drop at it’s finest, premiering to the world right here on Mixtape Mondays to bless up your week. Stream and download below, tracklist here.

LargeUp Premiere: DJ Rampage, Suicide of a Nation: Two weeks back on MM, our guy DJ Rampage of the worldwide Rampage Sound Global massive unleashed his From the Office of the General mixtape, and this week we’re bringing you part two of the installment, premiering the ting called Suicide of a Nation. With part one touching more on the bashment side of things, this round digs into Rampage’s deep love of reggae and roots music, serving up close to two full hours of selections. The mix thoroughly runs the gamut of new roots sounds and artists, from big tunes to lesser known material. Stream and download below, tracklist here.

I-Octane, Happy Times Mixtape: I-Octane has just gone and dropped a new collection of tunes (via our compadres at Boomshots) and, as we’d expect, it gets right to the point, delivering straight shellings from start to finish. Octane is easily one of the hardest hustling artists in the game today, and has seen his successes rise exponentially the last few years. Consistency is one of the most difficult hurdles in the reggae arena, and clearly the artist understands what that’s all about. With huge singles calling forwards in both dancehall and reggae circles worldwide, I-Octane isn’t going anywhere, and this compilation is testament to that. This is actually a tracked and unmixed collection of mostly new 320kbs MP3’s, so DJ’s take note as well… Download here, get a closer look at what Octane’s been up to in the vid below:
