Footprints is an appropriate title for the upcoming documentary which looks to shed light on Grenadian Olympic sprinter Kirani James‘ humble story. It’s clear from this preview that Kirani is making his mark in history for his hometown, Gouyave, and the rest of the world, as he continues to break records effortlessly and graciously. He’s the reason Grenadians many are smiling.
At the age of 14, Kirani grabbed the track and field world’s attention when he won the gold medal in the 400-meters at the 2007 CARIFTA Games. In 2009, he was named the 2009 Grenada Sportsman of the Year. In the 2012 Summer Olympics, Kirani won the first ever Olympic gold medal for the Spice Island, in the men’s 400-meter dash. Last month, the runner dominated at the Golden Spike Meet in Czech Republic, finishing the 400-meter race in 44.49 seconds, a new world record. Despite being compared to Usain Bolt countless times, Kirani just wants to be recognized as himself, often times humbly disregarding the compliment.
We’re looking forward to seeing how the film tells tale of the fastest racer from the small Caribbean island, and the pride the people have for him. It’s hard not to root for this guy.
