LargeUp Premiere: Cornell Campbell x Soothsayers, “There’s A Fire” (Rootikal Remix)

Words by Jesse Serwer—

Reggae oracle Cornell Campbell and U.K. band Soothsayers recently collaborated on a new LP, Nothing Can Stop Us, part of Strut Records‘ Inspiration Information series, which pairs contemporary acts with legends in the game. (Soothsayers’ Robin Hopcraft also collaborated with us on a rundown of Campbell’s toppa top 10 classics, which you can read here.)

One of the tracks from the album, “There’s A Fire” is the subject of a new single release including some new and fresh remixes. For their version of “There is a Fire,” David Hill and Ashley Beedle of Rootikal took things back to the rocksteady era, specifically the summer of 1967, isolating Campbell’s vocals and the Soothsayers horn section and creating something that could pass for a vintage Treasure Isle or Studio One recording.

In advance of the 45-single release of “There’s A Fire,” which drops in October, we’ve got an exclusive stream of the Rootikal remix below. For more on the Nothing Can Stop Us project, watch an EPK documenting the collaboration here.
