Our guest on tomorrow’s edition of the LargeUp Sessions, DJ Pr!nce, is a new name to most, but he won’t be for much longer. The DJ/producer/rapper is preparing a new, reggae/dancehall-inspired hip-hop project called Test My Sound, which he’ll be releasing through LargeUp later this month. While the sound of the project is certainly hip-hop at its core, Pr!nce explores his West Indian roots in various ways, sprinkling in bits of reggae and dancehall sounds throughout, and taking production cues from ’80’s digital dancehall and hip-hop x dancehall projects like Mad Lion’s Da Real Ting.
“Dangerous” is a perfect example—a dark, straight-up hip-hop beat is punctuated with snippets of soundclash tapes and other Jamaican ephemera, while guest MC Vaughn Garcia borrows some classic soundbwoy-killing chat from Ninjaman, after introducing himself with some more traditional lyricism. Stream “Test My Sound” below, and tune into the LargeUp Sessions from 6 to 8 p.m. ET tomorrow night on RadioLily.com
