NEW MUSIC: Jovi Rockwell Returns With “I Got You”

Have we ever mentioned we love Jovi Rockwell? Well, there was that one time we took her to an invigoratingly cold Key Biscayne in Miami, and shot glamorous shots of her under the sunset and moonlight, and talked all about the singer’s extended hiatus from recording and newfound love for the guitar. Then we brought her out to our Winter Music Conference party in March for a super dope performance and ting. So I guess, yeah, we have.

But we’ve been waiting on new music from the sweet and sassy siren for so long we were beginning to wonder if we would ever hear anything from her again. Well, somewhat quietly (holler at us next time, Jovi!), she’s just leaked her first new tune in a few years, called “I Got You,” sampling James Brown’s “I Got You (I Feel Good).” Yes, the JB classic is hardly an original song to sample from, but producer REO of the Soundkillers does all the right things with the funk staple to get this “I Got You” sounding fresh (especially the fuego flanging effect at the end). And, of course, Jovi comes through with her usual swagger, but turned up maybe even a little bit more with some serious trash talking. We couldn’t say it any better than the Godfather himself: So good!
