Every year as New York City gears up for Labor Day Weekend, Massive B’s Bobby Konders and Jabba along with the Tri State’s leading urban radio station Hot 97 throw a monstrous annual concert dubbed On Da Reggae Tip. The genre’s biggest artists perform for an always-enthusiastic audience, and Friday night’s edition was no exception. Reggae and dancehall giants Stephen and Damian Marley, Mavado (who brought out surprise guest Nicki Minaj), Cham, Mr Vegas, Konshens and many more performed.
But it was during Shaggy’s set that dancehall’s most elusive personality not only showed face—with some seriously long hair and beard— but dished out classics like “Vineyard Party” and “Ghetto Red Hot.” That’s right, the Don Dada, Original Wild Apache and Boss of all Bosses, Supercat, tore down Hammerstein Ballroom last night, and everyone who missed it can all cry together, or maybe hope that he returns to the stage more frequently as it’s been years since his last performance.
