This week is all about the artists here at Mixtape Mondays with three big selections from some of reggae and dancehall’s finest. The sweet delivery of Romain Virgo meets the boasy and uncensored Vybz Kartel while we wrap things up with a healthy cut of ageless Dennis Brown. I think it’s gonna be a good week.
DJ Wayne, Go Hard 2013 and Beyond: Big combo here from Irie FM general DJ Wayne a.k.a DJ Wizzle and undeniable JA artist Romain Virgo. Romain has been making serious moves the last few years, gaining fans and forwards across the globe with his signature sweet sound and added support from the Jukebooxx Records camp. Wizzle builds the thing nice with early endorsements from Morgan Heritage, Munga, Beres Hammond, Bounty Killer and more before reeling off new Romain singles, collaborations, freestyles and specials. You should be up on this singer already but if you’re not just press play right here.
DJ Roy, Best From Jail: Looking for some new material from the still deposed Vybz Kartel to add to the rotation? Look no further than this mix from Jamaica / Chicago’s DJ Roy. The Wurl Boss has been busier than every churning out tunes from behind bars on a steady basis — of course this can impact the quality on a few different fronts but the man always got something new and clever in the works ready to voice at any moment for his loyal contingent of fans. See what he’s been up to with this one. Stream and download below
Steelie Bashment, 100% Vintage Dennis Brown Mix: Pretty much a wrap from the title alone on this mix from heavy Brooklyn staples Steelie Bashment. Here we pay tribute to one of the most loved and respected singers in all of reggae music, someone who’s undying music and contribution to Jamaica and it’s people will continue to influence all different types of people from all walks of life for generations to come. Dennis Brown and his catalog are beyond timeless, so salute to Steelie for compiling this mix of strictly vintage selections from Jamaica’s Crown Prince. They ease off on the drops and sound effects as well to let the music shine through as it’s intended, check out Steelie’s Beres Hammond mix same way. Stream and download below
