As we enter another week of music here at Mixtape Mondays we’re treated to a mixed bag of vibes from foundation to today. I’m sure Miami Carnival was a blast (please keep to yourself if you were there) but it’s time to get back to business around here. Get in gear below
LargeUp Premiere: DJ Rampage, Current Affairs: Round two of some fresh new mixtape deliveries dropped off from the Belizean homie and tour DJ for Ms. Lauryn Hill DJ Rampage. Last week we brought you the premiere of the large one drop and culture chapter Wadada, with this monday blasting off the latest reggae and dancehall installment “Current Affairs”. Quality juggling from the general behind Rampage Sound Global collectively waving the flag for Belize City, Brooklyn and Tokyo. Stream and download below
DJ Sabz, Mek Dem Kotch: Yoow, sick vibes from the UK’s DJ Sabz, making his MM debut with this badd new mix for all the dancers. Repping Wass Muffin Sound sharing roots in Martinique and Paris – Sabz is the selector in charge for all the dancehall queen competitions in Southern UK so it’s only fitting to pull together all the big wine, bubble, jook, kotch and bruk out tunes in one place. This one is a dancehall dancer’s dream with an hour plus of shellings to accompany the workout, the dance studio, the club, the bedroom… maddeee. Stream and download below, tracklist here
Natural Affair, Studio One Exclusive & More: A proper Studio One ting is a welcome third selection this week. Returning to the UK with Natural Affair Sound who come with a re-release of this heavy foundation mixtape pulled up from 2001. Exclusives and of course classics make up this love affair with one arguably the most iconic jumping points in reggae music’s history — spearheaded of course by Mr. Coxsone Dodd. Natural Affair seems to have a strong history in the UK soundsystem scene, also recommend peeping their recent 100% dubplate mix from Tarrus Riley. Stream and download below
