Big People Ting: Watch Konshens’ Latest Dutty Dancehall Excursion

Words by Jesse Serwer—

More than any other dancehall artist since Vybz Kartel, Konshens has the formula for making songs that work in the club down pat. The SubKonshuns Music boss has put out hit after hit in the last few years—and hits with staying power at that—and he’s now getting set to release a follow-up to his worldwide debut (we say that because apparently he dropped a Japan-only LP previously) Mental Maintenance.

We’re not in love with the title Love Truth and Dancehall (sounds a bit like somebody else’s album name) but if the music follows in the direction of “Big People Ting,” it should be a stellar effort. Like some of Konshens’ other recent hits, “Big People Ting” shows Konshens mastery on ’90s-style riddims, specifically TJ Records’ Toasted riddim. The video, like the song, looks like a 2013 update of a ’90s ting: a nighttime outdoor session stocked with motorbikes and spandex-clad dancers.

Considering the raw lyrics and the shortness of the dancers’ pum-pum shorts, this one is probably not suitable for play should you be in an office but, if not, go ahead and treat yourself to Konshens’ dutty dancehall excursion below.
