When it comes to dub and reggae, Wackie’s holds a special place on our turntables. The first reggae specialist label of note in the U.S., the Bronx-based imprint founded by Jamaican transplant Lloyd “Bullwackies” Barnes is behind some of our favorite records, like The Love Joys “All I Can Say” and Junior Delahaye’s “Love.” While other reggae labels have signature sounds, there’s no mistaking Wackie’s era-capturing blend of lo-fi textures, eerie harmonies and behind-the-beat, head-nod swag.
Earlier this year we even went and compiled a Wackies Toppa Top 10 to put some shine on our favorite recordings from the Wackie’s catalog. So when Ira Heaps of the famed NYC record store Jammyland brought us about a new line of officially-licensed apparel from Wackie’s himself, we signed up immediately. First up are hoodies and tees with the classic Wackie’s Lion of Judah logo. Both are available in Black only, in S, M, L, XL and XXL sizes. Head to the LargeUp page in the Okayplayer store to purchase.
