Words by Natalie Weiner—
How often you do you meet a reggae singer who began his professional life as a doctor — not a “doctor,” but an actual physician — then decided to attend Berklee College of Music in Boston to hone his singing and songwriting? That’s right— Mario Evon may have taken a less than traditional route to reggae music, but his smooth sound definitely descends from the classics.
His new video for the single “Soul Tek” is a sweet and romantic romp through Jamaica, befitting his polished and soul-infused sound. Recorded at Tuff Gong Studio, the track is the first single of his debut album Reggae-Soul Volume 1: M.E. On Love. What do you think? Does Evon live up to that (very impressive) hype?
